A major commission to develop a project at Abbey Gardens, near to the 2012 Olympic Village, and adjacent to a new extension of the Docklands Light Railway opening in 2010.  The project, which was initially grass roots led, offers something back to the local community during a period of major redevelopment, and the intention is for it to continue in the long-term.  Rather than allotments (that are owned by individuals), the project has created a productive community ‘harvest garden’, that has been animated by free events, and is accompanied by its own website. The initial stage was supported by the DLR Art Programme with funding for the first two seasons (£175,000) coming from Section 106, London Development Agency, Arts Council England, LB Newham’s Local Fund, Community Spaces programme (part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces initiative) and the Capital Growth Programme as well as in-kind support including from FOAG.
