A major public art project commissioned by PEER (an independent arts charity based in the area, with a national and international reputation for high quality projects and exhibitions), for local charitable regeneration agency, Shoreditch Trust. Five large works were made for specific sites around Shoreditch, to coincide with the annual Shoreditch Festival, which is a central part of the Trust’s culture-led regeneration programme. Inspired by the faded 20th century advertisements painted on the brick walls of buildings around Shoreditch, each identified a small, sole trader business located on Hoxton Street, with whom the artist liaised to make the work. Originally intended to be installed for a year, the commissions have in fact remained and become a part of the local landscape. A poster campaign with Art on the Underground ran alongside the Festival, helping to draw London-wide attention. The commission budget was a total of £60,000, funded with support from Arts Council England, The Shoreditch Trust and The Henry Moore Foundation.
